"People have a pretty good sense of the first (statistical) moment but intuition fails them at the second and beyond"
Notes:
This is a paraphrasingof a remark I heard during a short course on “Factory Physics,” taught by Mark Spearman of Georgia Institute of Technology and and Wallace Hopp of Northwestern. It was memorable not only for its clever linkage to statistical moments but also because it had been often experienced in my recent management experience trying to deal with project resourcing.
